I would totally rock a Rover 75 if I could get one in the US in LHD. Wikipedia says it was sold in Mexico, maybe I can sneak one over the border...

Doesn't even have to be a V8 (although I'd love one with the non-V8 front clip)

Why does it have to be LHD??

Because driving RHD in a LHD country would probably feel a bit weird.

I'll admit - it looks way better than a Catera, and better than a Lincoln LS - two cars of the period that I can think of.

Could you register it in Mexico, and bring it over "Temporarily"?

I should note that I don't actually have enough money to buy one, let alone import it.

Surprisingly reliable cars - from the days when BMW took over. Everything's relative of course...

We had a Rover 75 1.8i Connoisseur (top spec) and yes it was a pretty good car. No faults or problems other than the front leg area was a little too narrow and rear legroom was a little small.

The V8 is the only rear wheel drive one with the rest being front wheel drive.

If you can't get the V8 go for the 2.5V6. Very good quite powerful engine.

Also between the Rover 75 and the MG ZT I'd go for the MG, little more performance tuned and the MG ZTT (wagon/estate) looks very nice.

Most people say they get used to it within a few hours. And it's worth the unlimited coolness you'd receive.

grautautogallery.com. They had one listed for sale last week for $11k. Dwhite posted about one last week. They're located in the Detroit area

I'd definitely rock one as well. They've got a bit of a reputation as old man's cars here in the UK, think 90s Buicks in the States, but I would still happily drive one.

However, apparently they're very nice cars to drive and the interiors are truly fantastic (I've been in a couple in scrapyards). Proper old-school British luxury: leather and wood, rather than German luxury of 'everything must be black or grey'.

I'd also love a V8 with a standard 75 look. Like a modern-day SD1 :)

If anything I think the Rover 800 is a modern-day SD1

I'd say it's a modern-day interpretation of the SD1, but the character is quite different from the V8 RWD British bruiser. It's probably an excellent counterpart to the SD1 2600, but the V8 75/MG ZT is the first true successor (although you could make an argument for the 800 Turbo)

For your own sake, do not google image search "SD1 coupe". There's no benefit to becoming obsessed with things that don't exist.

Or, by extension, "Rover 75 coupe".

Grand Rapids Area*

GR = Grand Rapids. Grand Rapids is the other side of Michigan. The less stabby side.
